Vocalist: Tzvi Bat Asherah

Tzvi Bat Asherah is a bass-baritone studying vocal performance at the University of New Mexico, and he is very excited to work as an apprentice at the Santa Fe Opera in their upcoming season. Tzvi has been singing since he was nine years old when he joined the UNM Children’s Choir, and his passion for classical music kept him in close proximity to the UNM Music department. Tzvi performed in his first opera within that choir, Brundibar by Hans Krása. This opera was performed again by the UNM Children's Choir later on where Tzvi played one of the leading roles, Pepicek. He also performed as the angel Raphael in the premiere of Shoes for the Santo Niño, written by Stephen Paulus, in 2011. Tzvi performed in the chorus of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, with the UNM Opera Theatre as a high schooler in 2019. Tzvi has since blossomed as a singer with the UNM Opera Theatre and has performed with them as Superintendent Budd in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring and Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Recently, Tzvi has been preparing to sing the titular role of Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with the UNM Opera Theatre in April of this year. While studying as a vocalist with UNM, Tzvi has won several awards including the Cris and Marilyn Barnes award during the 2023 Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival.

Tzvi was born in Albuquerque and has lived here all of his life. When he is not studying, rehearsing, or singing, he enjoys climbing at his local gym. He is auditioning at several colleges to continue studying vocal performance after he graduates in May of this year with his Bachelor of Music. Tzvi hopes to make opera his career and aspires to sing roles such as Marcello in Puccini’s La Boheme and the titular role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
